Emma graduated from the University of Strathclyde with a BA(hons) in psychology in 2002. She subsequently completed her MRes and PhD at Lancaster University and is currently employed at Northumbria University as a Research Officer.
Emma’s doctoral thesis examines the influence of macronutrients on cognitive performance and mood. Her research has demonstrated cognitive enhancement following glucose and protein ingestion. However cognitive impairments were observed following fat ingestion. She has also examined the influence of a number of potential moderating influences such as time of day and inter-individual variability in glucose tolerance and circadian rhythms. Emma has recently worked as a research assistant on a project examining the influence of varying caffeine and glucose ratios on cognitive performance and mood following acute stress.
