About

Emma graduated from Northumbria University in 2008 with a BSc (Hons) in psychology. During the summer she commenced work as a research assistant within the BPNRC furthering the research she conducted for her undergraduate project.

Research

Emma's undergraduate project was the first to investigate the potentially cognitive enhancing effects of the polyphenol 'resveratrol' in humans. This small pilot study demonstrated extremely positive results thus warranting a larger more in depth investigation. This will again involve acute supplementation of resveratrol and measurement of cognitive performance, this time utilizing near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) technology to monitor cerebral blood flow. This study will form the initial part of Emma's PhD which aims to investigate the cognitive enhancing potential of numerous polyphenols.
