Tom is a Senior Lecturer within the Division of Psychology. He has a PhD in Psychology. Tom’s main teaching is at undergraduate level in memory, abnormal psychology and the psychology of crime. His main administrative duties include Level 5 Tutor, Personal Guidance Tutor, Undergraduate and Post-Graduate Supervisor.
Tom’s research mainly focuses on the impact of recreational substances upon everyday memory – which subsumes prospective memory and working memory. Recent research projects include whether excessive alcohol use and ‘binge drinking’ has a deleterious effect upon prospective memory in young adults and teenagers. Other research has focused on whether prolonged use cannabis, ecstasy, and other substances, impair prospective memory and working memory. The issue of whether abstinence from these drugs improves memory is also considered in Tom’s research.
