The BPNRC is currently recruiting for several ongoing studies, listed below. You can click on the Participant Information Sheet box which links to full details for each study. 

 

  • An investigation into the effects of Euphytose (a herbal supplement) in healthy adults (aged 18-65 years which involves a training visit (no more than 2 hours) and 4 further appointments (testing visits, approx. 2.5 hours each).  In between appointments 2 and 3 you will be required to take treatment at home every day for 14 days and complete mood questionnaires and cognitive tasks 7 days before and 7 and 14 days after appointment 2 on your mobile phone/tablet.  Appointment 4 commences 28 days after appointment 3 and follows the same procedure as appointments 2 and 3 (including completion of mobile phone/tablet assessments).   • An investigation into the effects of sage in healthy adults  (aged 30-60 years) which involves a training visit (approx. 3 hours), 2 testing visits (approx. 6 hours each, 28 days apart), and 1 interim visit (approx. 5 mins). You will also need to complete cognitive tasks on your mobile phone when you come in for your first visit and then on day 7, 14, 21, and 28 in between your lab-based visits.   • An investigation into the effects of Wild Green Oat Extract in healthy adults  (aged 35-65 years) which involves a training visit (no more than 3 hours), and 2 testing visits (approx. 5-5.5 hours each, 28 days apart), You will also need to complete questionnaires when you come in for your first visit and then on day 8, 15, 22, and 29 in between your lab-based visits. An investigation into the cognitive effects of caffeine (100 mg; or equivalent to a large cup of coffee) when consumed within coffee drinks in healthy adults (aged 18-45 years) who are already regular caffeine consumers. This involves a training visit (approx. 3 hours) and 1 testing visit (approx. 2.5 hours). You will also need to complete cognitive tasks on your mobile phone when you come in for your testing visit.  You will be compensated £30 for your time.   •  An investigation into the effects of probiotics in the healthy elderly (aged 65+) which requires 3 visits to the lab. Appointment 1 is approximately 3 hours in duration and appointment 2 and 3 are both approximately 5.5 hours. You will be compensated £120 for your time.   • An investigation into iron status and health in female participants aged between 18-49 yrs which requires x2 visits to the lab; the first for 2.5hrs and the second for 1.5 hrs. A study examining the effects of resveratrol on cognitive function and mood in overweight adults aged 35-60 years. This study involves a training visit (approx. 3 hours), 2 testing visits (approx. 7 hours) and one treatment exchange visit (10 mins). £140 compensation; please contact Ellen Smith ellen.smith@northumbria.ac.uk for more details.
