Mango Leaf Study- participants aged 18-45 

 

We are currently recruiting healthy participants between the ages of 18-45 to take part in a study of the cognitive, mood and stress-reducing effects of a mango leaf extract.

 

The study will require you to come to the Brain Performance and Nutrition Research Centre (BPNRC) at Northumbria University on x3 occasions:

 

- Training/ screening afternoon, at your convenience, lasting approximately 2.5-3 hrs

- 1st testing day, at your convenience, requiring completion of mood questionnaires and cognitive tasks whilst under observation. Starting in the morning at a prearranged time and lasting approximately 8-8.5 hrs (note there are breaks in between)

               * Taking mango leaf extract, or placebo, once during each testing visit.

- 2nd testing day, a week later, with exact same schedule as the 1st

 

To compensate for your time and travel you will receive £120 (plus £20 if giving blood samples) for taking part in this study

Multi-ingredient Supplement- participants aged 55-75 

 

An investigation into the cognitive, mood and stress-reducing effects of a multi-ingredient supplement in healthy adults (aged 55-75 years). Involves a training visit (no more than 3 hours) and 2 further appointments (testing visits, approx. 3.5- 4 hours each, 1.5 hours of which requires active participation, the rest is rest periods).  In between appointments 2 and 3 you will be required to take treatment at home every day for 90 days and complete mood questionnaires and cognitive tasks every 7 days on your mobile phone/tablet and take an interim phone call from the researcher part way through.  Appointment 3 commences 90 days after appointment 2 and follows the same procedure as appointment 1). Herbal Supplement - participants aged 18-65 

 

An investigation into the effects of Euphytose (a herbal supplement) in healthy adults (aged 18-65 years which involves a training visit (no more than 2 hours) and 4 further appointments (testing visits, approx. 2.5 hours each).  In between appointments 2 and 3 you will be required to take

treatment at home every day for 14 days and complete mood questionnaires and cognitive tasks 7 days before and 7 and 14 days after appointment 2 on your mobile phone/tablet.  Appointment 4 commences 28 days after appointment 3 and follows the same procedure as appointments 2 and 3 (including completion of mobile phone/tablet assessments). Wild Green Oat Extract - participants aged 35-65

 

An investigation into the effects of Wild Green Oat Extract in healthy adults  (aged 35-65 years) which involves a training visit (no more than 3 hours), and 2 testing visits (approx. 5-5.5 hours each, 28 days apart), You will also need to complete questionnaires when you come in for your first visit and then on day 8, 15, 22, and 29 in between your lab-based visits. Coffee - participants aged 18-45

 

An investigation into the cognitive effects of caffeine (100 mg; or equivalent to a large cup of coffee) when consumed within coffee drinks in healthy adults (aged 18-45 years) who are already regular caffeine consumers. This involves a training visit (approx. 3 hours) and 1 testing visit (approx. 2.5 hours). You will also need to complete cognitive tasks on your mobile phone when you come in for your testing visit.  You will be compensated £30 for your time. Probiotic - participants aged 65+

 

An investigation into the effects of probiotics in the healthy elderly (aged 65+) which requires 3 visits to the lab. Appointment 1 is approximately 3 hours in duration and appointment 2 and 3 are both approximately 5.5 hours. You will be compensated £120 for your time. Resveratrol - participants aged 18-55

 

A study examining the effects of resveratrol on inflammation and cognitive function in healthy adults aged 18-55 years. This study involves a training visit (approx. 2 1/2 hours) and 2 testing visits a month apart (approx. 2 hours each). You will also need to complete short assessments on your mobile phone once a week away from the research centre. £60 compensation; please contact ellen.smith@northumbria.ac.uk for more details.
